Truly, Attuma didn't know what possessed him to lift his head and open his tired eyes. Rule one of taking the subway was to mind your business after all. But he felt...something. He didn't know what it was until his gaze shifted to the right and narrowed in on the woman across from him, suddenly turning her head so he wouldn't suspect her staring.
His tanned cheeks flushed as he realized what she was doing rather quickly. Well, sleep was now the last thing on his mind as he gazed at the woman trying her hardest to avoid his eyes.
Attuma found himself rather fascinated with his admirer. Did she recognize him from somewhere? Maybe she saw him often on the train. Maybe she frequently visited some places he enjoyed; the coffee shop, library, the gym. His thoughts crowded his mind as he continued to stare at her.
Suddenly, he was wondering what she liked to eat, what her favorite color was, and how he liked her coffee. It was only when he had the sweet envision of her plush lips against hers that he realized how delusional he must've seemed.
Cringing at himself and his thoughts, he shook them away and averted his eyes from her, opting to look down into his lap instead.
Little did he know, while his gaze on her had ended, hers on him had resumed. Okoye wanted to know his name, how old he was, what he did for a living. She wanted to ask his ethnicity and how his childhood had treated him. She wanted to know his hobbies and what thoughts occupied his mind.
The page in her book had been long forgotten as she continued to gaze at the make of a man. Then, she found herself wanting to run her hands through his wavy locks of hair and tug them back with just enough force to make him whine.
Okoye's face noticeably screwed up at the intrusive and suggestive thought about the stranger. She scolded herself as she open up the stiff pages and focused her eyes on the passage she lost herself in.
It was a cold war between the two. A tense game of who would make the first move. Time passed and they both had knowingly missed their stops but sneaky glances and blushing smiles were obviously more priority than getting home.
By now, everyone on the train had dispersed and left. Okoye and Attuma stayed for the sake of building up the courage to know each other.
A gruff clearing of his throat, cause her head to snap up only to be met with him staring at her already. She spared him a small smile and a wave which he returned.
"Hey.." Attuma started, noting the way she seemed to melt at the reveal of his voice. "I'm Attuma."
Okoye smiled, her nervousness revealed in the fidgeting of her hands and fingers. "Okoye"
I told someone some time ago that I'd love to meet the love of my life on a train on a trip somewhere, just like how the protagonists in Before Sunrise met. He just laughed. He said I watched too many dramas and movies.
And then there is this song titled Traingazing.
When I first heard the song I thought hmm this song is pretty much my style. Then as I listened, the lyrics hit me hard instantly.
I was like, hey, isn't this something that I would say?
