This is a reminder to always train your dog. Maybe not with super complex tricks but the basic ones are bare minimum.
Sit: So your dog can have their leash attached. So you can feed them. So you can gran your things. Because it's a really easy command and this can get you started in clicker training.
Stay: So you can grab things. So you can leave the house without the dog bolting for the door. So your dog won't approach someone who's afraid. Stay is an important command.
Heel: In the same vein as stay, heel should be used even if your dog is on a leash. Especially if your dog is leashed. Heel keeps them from bolting down the sidewalk or into a street. Stops them from tugging at a leash and makes makes walks smoother. This can also be the transition for leashless walking.
Leave It/Drop It: Extremly important! Especially if you have a puppy! Lets you be able to take dangerous things like cables or batteries they've managed to dig out of the space places without you or them getting hurt. Also prevents them from eating dangerous food.
Down: Simple command that can be taught right after sit. Usually a gateway for clicker training.
Crate: Now I'll admit to not being a fan of crates but that's just a person preference. That said, your dog should be trained to go to their crate if you ask them to. Keeps them away from certain guests, out of the way if you're cleaning and is sometimes just a must if you're leaving the house and can't trust them not to destroy things, put themselves in danger or your neighbors have a vendetta against your dog being in the yard by itself for a while.
Always train your dog. Even if it's something small like a Chiawawa. The reason small dogs have such a bad reputation for being mean is because their people never train them and they disrespect the dog's boundaries.
Treat your dog right and clicker training is both fun and your friend.
Also you can 100% clicker train your cats. And for more active or puzzle seeking breeds, I reccomend that you should. Both as a way to teach them not to do certain things, and to bond while teaching them some cool tricks.
Took my babe to the lake today to do some recall work. He still has a bit of ways to go, and i dont trust him off leash yet, but he’s doing so much better

a list of tricks my dog can do:
sit, lie down, roll over, play dead, wait (he’s really good at waiting, if I put a piece of sausage on his paw when he lies down he will wait as I walk out of the room until I come back and tell him he can eat it), if you stand up and say “middle” he will sit between your legs, if you sit down on a chair and say “under” he will lie down under your legs, if you say “boop” and hold out your hand he will touch your hand with his nose, he can weave between your legs as you walk, he can spin, he can walk around you in a circle, his recall is amazing and I’m teaching him to crawl around on his belly.
I’m really proud of him especially since he’s only about twenty three weeks old, he really loves training and he loves treats (he will train without treats) and he will do absolutely anything for some sausage. Kevin is a service dog in training so we are fostering him and I am training him, I’ve only ever trained bees before so I’m also proud of myself for managing to train a dog lol
