headcanons for firebender!y/n?

ooh this is such a fun ask!! settle in because i have a lot to say <3

- i hate to say, but i think that if y/n was a firebender, she would not be the same y/n we know and love. she constitutes an entire alternative universe in itself because genuinely i can’t imagine her being able to interact with any of the characters in the same way. the whole story would be completely different

- firebender!y/n is beyond cocky about herself. she always knows how good she is but now it isn't about proving her worth it's all about showing off, saying look at me and how proficient i am

- she has a better relationship with her dad, but a worse one with her brothers because now they're her direct competition and i imagine, if she was a firebender, her dad would be a girldad. three boys and one girl? oh she spoiled spoiled

- y/n is a strong, precise bender, she works hard at making each move perfect. she's not a perfectionist like Azula, she admits when she's wrong about something and accepts help to correct it but she works and works and works until she gets it right and the hair is singed off of her arms.

- (star and I decided that if y/n were a firebender, she would hold back when fighting Azula, because she's good, really good, but never as good as Azula, and she sure as shit doesn't want to show Azula how good she really is. That's a secret for only her to know.)

- firebender!y/n doesn't join the gaang until Zuko does–and I can imagine it doesn’t go very well (i can’t justify changing aang’s firebending teacher from zuko to y/n, and have it be earlier in the story because that canon storyline is so integral to the whole of atla.)

- one of y/n's main motivations is understanding and empathizing with being different and she sees that in the gaang. firebender!y/n has never been oppressed a day in her life, she doesn't understand the hardships that the gaang goes through and frankly she probably wouldn't care at first.

- so Firebender!y/n doesn’t get along with the gaang nearly as well as she does as a non bender.

- she’s harder to trust, for one, because in this instance i don’t see katara speaking up for her so much. in the same way that katara blames all firebenders, including zuko for her mother’s death, i think y/n would also be on that list

- without katara speaking up for her, it would take longer for sokka and toph and aang to also trust her, katara’s trust in her really helped them along

- not to mention that if she were a firebender, she probably wouldn’t be a sword fighter and all of that time that sokka and her spent together wouldn’t have happened

- they wouldn’t have had anything in common to make them actually start talking and getting along and therefore they would have had to find other ways to interact

- and it’s also hard for me to find a reason for her to leave if she was a firebender, because i think firebender y/n has an even BETTER relationship with azula and i think that means she would have a worse one with zuko (they too wouldn’t have sword fighting to bond over)

- firebender y/n probably wouldn’t end up with sokka at least in the atla timeline. maybe, maybe i could seen a very slow burn fic during their mid twenties but… they just have nothing in common

- Tl;dr firebender!y/n is really exciting to think about but she makes me sad too

This is my first time doing this cause it makes me nervous but I love your fic and just thought of some headcanons

It's canon in the comics that kya is a lesbian and I just thought of her and y/n having a moment together where y/n opens up about how she use to feel about her sexuality and they bond over it.

I could also see her in korra coming in around book 4. Katara sees korra struggling with nightmares and PTSD so she calls y/n to come over and help with her recovery cause she remembers she struggled with the same thing. Hope that all made sense -🧡anon

this is so cute!! i love getting new headcanons in my askbox!!

i love thinking about y/n in any of the comics or lok. i've headcanoned before that she has a really special relationship with Bumi II because he doesn't have the ability to bend and so he kind of clings to her and Sokka when he's young, but it's so fun to think about y/n relationship with all the kids!!

maybe kya is really nervous about coming out to her parents and kya knows her parents are loving and that nothing would ever change that and really, telling them she is a lesbian should be nothing but she knows that one time Bumi mentioned that y/n likes girls too and she knows her aunt is a good listener and thinks maybe it will just be easier to tell her aunt and uncle first, and get some of her nervousness out of the way. y/n's able to teach kya all the things she learned over the years about accepting herself and it's really wholesome.

also, so sweet to imagine y/n helping Korra with her PTSD!! Yes, Katara notices all the same signs in Korra that she did in Y/N when they were younger (and lets be honest, in all of her friends and herself) and asks for y/n's help with her recovery.

so i’ve seen fics and art where Aang is really nervous about giving Tenzin his air bending tattoos bc he got his so long ago and doesn’t really know what he’s doing. usually all of the past air bending avatars are the ones to teach him and i love it, so tell me why the second i close my eyes to fall asleep tonight this is what comes to mind.

consider this: imagine y/n seeing Aang be so anxious about giving Tenzin his tattoos in the days leading up to the ceremony and she’s like, “buddy, it’s okay. i know i’m not an airbender, but you can practice on me. it’s okay!” and she lets aang maybe give her a lil tattoo on her arm so he can practice like pressure and force and stuff, and fuck he is NOT good at first and it honestly brings tears to her eyes which brings tears to AANG’s eyes and he’s like “why are you letting me do this??” and she’s just like, “this is so important to you and your culture why wouldn’t i let you do this?? i want tenzin’s tattoos to be perfect and i want you to be proud of yourself because you’re a great father Aang and i know if you couldn’t do this you’d feel like you’re failing your people and tenzin and i’m not going to let that happen.”

Hii! I just finished reading your fic and was wondering if you had any headcanons for what would have happened if y/n never went on the mission with azula? If you are okay with that that is. Thank you~

okay so!! sorry this took so long to answer but i haven’t thought about it much but it’s a really interesting concept and I wanted to get it right!! i feel like if she hadn’t gone with Azula she might have went a little stir crazy and she definitely would not have switched sides. so like, heres some headcanons for Evil! Y/N

- the reason why she switched sides is because she was shown another way while she was on her mission. growing up she didn’t vibe with the war but she also didn’t understand enough about it to oppose it fully, she just knew she didn’t like it but didn’t know why

- without the mission she basically had no other choice but to throw herself head first into the war

- so when Azula leaves, she probably would have reluctantly gone home to live with her parents because there was nothing keeping her at the palace

- i think that she would have trained a lot because of boredom and maybe some anger about her not being with Azula?

- i think that she might have even started going to war meetings with her dad

- if she started doing that, i think that she might have become a little more cynical? like, she talks about hating the war a lot even when she was with Azula, and since her brother almost died being baited in the war

- i think she would feel like she was doing what she was meant to whether it was what she wanted or not, you know? Kind of goes back to the Zuko drabble where she’s like “I understand that is the life that has been carve out for me but I don’t like it” and now she is just accepting it (with defeat)

- so when Azula comes back toting Zuko as a ‘reformed prince’ she was ecstatic! Because both of her friends are back + mai and ty lee and things are going to be GREAT!!! but now she’s like, super into the war meetings and sits in on them any chance she can get and she just like, totally isn’t the same

- and so she hangs out with Zuko and her friends again but maybe she thinks Zuko is like, not the same as before because she’s the one that changed so much, especially in that last few weeks/months that Azula was gone

- when zuko leaves she thinks of him as a Traitor and despises him. she thinks that he’s weak and she’s not surprised that everything about him coming back was a lie made up by Azula. 

- she goes with Azula, Mai and Ty Lee to The Boiling Rock but oh ho!! when the other girls betray Azula, you best bet that Y/N is the one that takes both of them down and has a fucking field day shoving them into a prison cell, because fuck that’s Azula!!

- bc she is still around and she was Azula’s favorite anyways, Azula doesn’t go quite as crazy at the end as in the show bc Y/N is still there to keep her grounded enough

- I think that she would be there for the final agni kai, and I think that she would try and fight Zuko before he fought Azula even, bc she’s defending her new Firelord right??

- obviously the fight would still end with Azula and Y/N losing and they both get put in prison or whatever but like, Zuko still has a soft spot for Y/N and he thinks that she just lost her way and that she and Azula absolutely can be redeemed

YES and it would be funny if the only reason why Y/N wears them initially is because Ty Lee bought them for her and said they would look good. now she’s obsessed with them and wanted azula to match 🥺
