📖 Traitors in Space by Tom Collins + Steven Wood
🔍 Puzzles, paranoia, and paths galore in this twisty space station thriller for puzzle solvers and clue hunters.
I was obsessed with Choose Your Own Adventure books as a kid, so I couldn’t resist a space-themed version with logic puzzles built in. Throw in a possible alien takeover? Yes please, beam me aboard.
The branching paths and multiple endings gave me all the nostalgic thrill of those classic gamebooks. It’s smartly structured, with fun callbacks and a real sense of escalating tension no matter which path you end up on.
...how challenging the puzzles were! These aren’t just token additions — some of them genuinely made me pause and think. The art adds atmosphere too, especially during the more intense scenes. I also appreciated that while the tone is fast-paced and fun, there’s a real undercurrent of suspicion and dread in the best “alien imposter” way.
🎵 Featured Song: “Spaceman” – The Killers
🎶 Vibe Album: Tron: Legacy OST by Daft Punk – sleek, suspenseful synths perfect for crawling through air ducts.
🎧 Artist Recommendation: Muse — especially their alien-adjacent, paranoia-soaked tracks like “Madness” and “Uprising.”
A colour palette: Metallic grey, sickly green, neon red alerts
A soundtrack: That thudding synth sound just before something goes very wrong
A season: Winter — for the chill of deep space and creeping suspicion
A mood: Suspicious. Of everyone.
A scent: Ozone, over-sterilised corridors, and a faint whiff of something… alien.
Choose your own Adventure fans know that nothing is certain until you see The End - one minute you're up, the next minute you're down. The Wheel never stops turning, and nothing can be taken from granted.
