LEGEND IS TRANSFEM I DO WHAT I WANT!! /sillay
My dad sent me a video of him learning to play an Against Me! song on his guitar and it made me really look back and think.
This is a guy who five years ago told me that every trans person is self-obsessed and miserable and that my wanting to transition is extremely selfish and that i would be lying to people about what i am for my entire life.
And now hes wearing shirts supporting trans rights to work and in public (some of those shirts are so fucking sick, i did ask him to get me a couple of them), hes going to protests to fight for me and people like me. And its been a gradual change, he only recently started gendering and naming me consistently, but still.
Yeah it took the rise of fascism for him to go hey, thats my son so get the fuck away from him, but he's sending photos of him and my brother and my extended family at protests to the family group chat and excitedly telling me about a new song hes learning, a song that has fundamentally trans undertones.
It doesnt always get better, and its a bitter battle sometimes. But sometimes it does. My dad looked at me and his learned ideas and decided i was more important and worth changing his beliefs about.
He's not perfect, but hes apologizing for his past actions, and throwing himself into it full force despite the fact that it makes him uncomfortable at times
Today marks three years since I came out as a woman! My journey's been an unusual one, but every day I feel more and more like myself, and I wouldn't trade that for the world
