Trans and queer people make this world more beautiful. We experience new things, and create new worlds every single day. Never forget that. We have a right to our lives, our joy, and our freedom. We make the world better every day with our sheer existences, and no matter what, we will always be here.
To those who are in queerphobic and unsupportive environments: please, no matter what happens, do not give up hope. Somewhere, out there, there is someone like you who is thriving despite everything that the world has thrown at them. In the ways you can, search out and find those stories, and find people that show you just how valuable you are. They are out there, and online community is just as valid as in person. You do not need to be out to be valid, and only come out when you know it's safe and you've got a plan.
If this blog can provide you with some comfort and affirmation, that's all we want. And we're genuinely glad it does.
Being queer and trans in this world is more than just suffering, and dealing with hate and oppression. It is dreaming of a better future, and fighting for and creating one when the world told you that it wasn’t possible. It is possibility, it is hope, and it is creating a better world. It is finding family and joy in unexpected places wherever you go, it is witnessing the power of love firsthand in all its forms. It is looking back and being able to tell first your younger self, and then others in need, that it will be okay, because you thrived through the same crises.
Being queer and trans can be, and is, a good thing. Please, no matter what, hold onto the possibility of that. They can never take that away from us.
You deserve happiness, no matter what anybody else says. Even in a dark world and a political moment so shitty, your happiness is worth more than appeasing a bunch of sad hateful idiots who don't know what they're talking about. Your joy is resistance. So don't be afraid to bite straight in and get it all down your face, metaphorically. Your peace comes first, so block that trigger word or tag or news site, have a nice hot or cold drink, and do something you love. The world may be dark, but fighting for happiness as an act of rebellion is a much better alternative than not. Queer and trans lives, joy, community, hope, rest and peace are sacred. Do not forget that.
Some of our trans joy from last night: we're going to a new martial arts club while we're home over the summer from uni, and we met another nonbinary person in yesterday's class.
It's genuinely great when you realise you aren't the only non-cis person in a space anymore. We are everywhere, and that is wonderful.
Trans people deserve the world, and so much better. We deserve freedom, hope, a seat at the table.
You deserve more than just tolerance: no matter what, you deserve to be loved and appreciated as the person you are. You deserve to show up in the world in the ways that feel right, and that make you feel happy. Never forget that, and if you're fighting for that right now... we see you. It will be okay.
We deserve to see a happy future, and to see our own possibility and power. So please, keep on going, and keep on telling your story to those who need it. You may be an example of a different world, a better future, to someone who is struggling to see it. You are powerful, and your life, freedom and joy is sacred. That deserves to be honoured.
Queer and trans youth will save the world. Queer and trans youth’s ideas, stories, and love of the world and each other will change the world.
The future will be more queer, and they deserve every good thing this day has to offer, and so much better.
Your story is important and worthy of being told, if you’re comfortable with it, no matter where you are in your transition, as there is someone else out there who has been through a similar path to you, and may need to hear your voice. Keep on posting, keep on writing, keep on doing what you love. Keep on living, keep on loving, keep on feeling. Remember, your story isn’t finished yet, and time is on your side. You have so much more life to live, things to learn, happy things to experience, people to help, and things to experience. No matter what, your queerness is beautiful, and you are important to someone, not just ‘despite it’, but because of it.
