After too long of a hiatus, the next post in my #thewomxnwhoinspireme series is Amalia. Here is why she inspires me:
Amalia is not only a talented and passionate filmmaker, but she is also extremely well rounded: Amalia is or has been a broadcast, web and radio content producer, editor, director, writer, a client and studio manager, educator, and a freelance editorial photographer - phew! Not only has she made some seriously awesome stuff, I have also admired her for pushing herself to get where she wants to be in her career, and taking big risks to change her career path. It takes guts to make decisions like that, and Amalia’s got ‘em.
I also admire Amalia on a personal level because she is such a ~~social butterfly~~. She seems to know everyone, and makes friends effortlessly. I think it’s because of her ability to always ask people questions about themselves, instead of talking about herself, making you feel heard and like the center of interesting conversation. In addition, she has the most intoxicating, infectious laugh! Pure joy emanates from her body when she is laughing and having a good time. You cannot help but join her.
Lastly, I just cannot with her natural beauty! Those freckles!! Amalia, you may not know this, but you are such a role model for other women to embrace and just be their pure selves. I take such inspiration from you to let inner beauty shine and try not to care what the latest makeup trend or put-together fashion outfit is; you take risks and look effortlessly fabulous doing it.
Amalia is smart, articulate, and has such a strong voice. The world needs more diverse voices in film and media.
Along with this post, I will be donating money to the National Center for Transgender Equality. NCTE is a national social justice organization devoted to ending discrimination and violence against transgender people through education and advocacy on national issues of importance to transgender people. Please consider joining me, and stay tuned for my next installment!
