transferring colleges

hi everyone! so i’ve recently decided that i’m going to try to transfer to another college/university because of many reasons, but primarily due to a) having a bad experience at the university i was attending b) currently being at a two-year community college and c) neither having a program for journalism, which i intend on studying.

in lieu of this, i was wondering if there was anybody that would be willing to share their thoughts on barnard college, emerson college, new york university, sarah lawrence college, university of southern california, or any college located on the east or west coast, specifically california or new york?

programs i am interested in pursuing studies include biology, biochemistry, biostatistics, journalism, or writing. if you have any specifics about good colleges or programs for these as majors or minors at the colleges/universities listed above or in general, i’d love to talk to you as well. 

more generally, i would also be interested in hearing stories about your experiences transferring colleges/universities, good or bad!

in conclusion: any advice, anecdotes, stories, etc. about transferring colleges would be really appreciated via ask, messages, reblogs, etc.! thanks! <3

The Journalism Department is part of De Anza's Language and Communication Village, and supports De Anza's core competencies in the following ways:

oh gosh i am moving in tomorrow! so excited! but yet really scared and not mentally prepared. it came too soon and hate that they accepted me at the end of july. ive been going absolutely nuts. but at least i get an awesome roommate!

I actually just transferred from New Vic. It’s not as tough as it sounds - I had a 3.3 GPA and just kept bugging them about it. Just be persistent and tell them straight-up why their college is great and you are, as well.

Yes, I did say it was extremely difficult to change colleges. The process is roughly the same for each college, but I am going to link you to my transfer college tage tag for you to scroll through the general process I found online. Please remember that it is done on a case-by-case basis, so there are no guarantees but I wish you the best of luck!

Hey Blurtygirl. I'm heading into my first year at UTSG, and I'm considering transferring into Trin for second year. (For many reasons) Do you happen to know what type of GPA, recommendations, extracurriculars, etc they'd be hoping to see? Also, what time of year would I apply to transfer? Thanks!

I want to remind you it is not easy at all to transfer between colleges once you’ve been assigned one, especially after your first year. To transfer colleges you are regarded on a case-by-case basis and only the registrar can accurately answer those questions for you. Hey Blurty! I got accepted to U of T St George and was placed into New College. I originally had no intentions of going to this campus, but I fell in love with the program I was looking at, as well as the campus. I visited over the March break and just loved St. Mike's and I would love to switch. What are the odds of me being able to do that? I have already contacted the St Mike's registrar and they said that they would get back to me in June

Congratulations on getting into U of T St. George and New College!! :) :)

As I’ve told countless other students, this is not a situation I like to put myself in. I know that transferring colleges is entirely on a case-by-case basis. It is possible you might have the tiniest bit more leeway because you haven’t started your academic career at the college yet, but the college does need to have certain numbers each year. I hope that you will get transferred into the college you desire, but I would also find a way to love New College because this is the college you have been accepted to (and btdubs, New College is pretty rad!). 

For more information on what other students have asked on transferring colleges, I would type that into my search bar (“transfer college” or something to that effect).

Hey! So all the people who want to transfer to Vic, on their website it says this, "If a student would like to switch colleges after they have received an offer of admission they should contact their desired College as soon as possible to see if this is a possibility." Sooo, does that mean if we contact the associate registrar, there's a possibility we may be able to transfer? Thanks!

I didn’t know they said that, that’s good to know! Yes, that’s exactly what it means. You’ll have a possibility but no guarantees. Now that some people have accepted and rejected U of T there might be a chance you’ll get in, or at least that’s what I suspect the college will tell you. But don’t get too excited. There is a chance, but not a big one.
