The strange moment when you realise your anxiety came on holiday too
There is a moment nobody puts in the travel photos.
You are somewhere beautiful.
Maybe the sea is in front of you. Maybe mountains. Maybe a hotel room you spent weeks imagining yourself in.
Everything looks right.
And still, something inside you feels wrong.
You check your phone.
Put it down.
Pick it up again.
You tell yourself you are tired. Maybe hungry. Maybe you just need to go out and do something.
But quietly, you know.
You came here hoping to feel different.
And for a few hours, maybe you did.
The airport helped. The new streets helped. The hotel helped. The excitement helped.
Then the noise settled.
And there you were again.
Same thoughts.
Same pressure in the chest.
Same unfinished conversations.
Same fear about Monday.
Same question you could not answer at home.
It is a strange kind of disappointment, because you feel almost guilty.
How can I feel like this in such a beautiful place?
But maybe beauty was never the problem.
Maybe the trip was carrying a job it could not perform.
Maybe you did not need a prettier view.
Maybe you needed rest.
Or distance.
Or courage.
Or honesty.
Or one quiet week without performing happiness for anyone.
Travel can change your surroundings in hours.
Changing what is happening inside you is different.
That does not make travel meaningless.
It makes the question before travel more important.
Not only:
Where do I want to go?
But:
What do I want to change about travel?
Maybe that question stays with you.
And maybe the next question is even more uncomfortable:
Are you travelling towards something you need — or simply away from something you do not want to feel?
