In my TF Resistance fan continuity idea, set on the dead Cybertron when Optimus and Megatron have disappeared, Tarn used to be a political commissar attached to an infantry unit during the active war. Now he's with Shockwave, because almost the entire population has died or fled the planet and there's propably no real army anymore. Most Decepticons fear or hate him, or both, and he's mainly aided by the young fanatic Flamewar and a guy named Nitro (Nitro Zeus).
When Tarn sees the new member of Elita's guerrillas, the green t. rex "Grimlock", he recognizes the guy — Steelwall, a Decepticon soldier who deserted from Tarn's unit during the war.
