I recently saw your trans!lance au and I'm non-binary, and one of the ways that first clued me into not being cis was I was looking forward to getting breasts, but once I did I was so uncomfortable with them and wanted them gone. Maybe that could be how Lance maybe figures out something is different.
Like I said in this post, I think Lance wouldn’t have started questioning until he hit middle school because his family pretty much let him wear whatever he wanted and play with whatever toys he wanted. Lance had always been more into things that were traditionally seen as “masculine,” but because he had two older brothers, everyone just assumed that Lance was a huge tomboy.Well skip to middle school when everyone is starting to hit puberty and hormones are all over the place. The first time Lance wore a bra, he felt so… wrong. And he couldn’t figure out why. Like he knew puberty would be an awkward time but was it supposed to feel this uncomfortable? Then during gym when he’d be forced to change in front of other girls, he had to get special permission to change on his own because he kept feeling like he would have a panic attack.Sex ed was the worst, because he thought at least THERE they could give him some answers but it only made him more confused.The first time that he really realized something was so off was when he realized that he would be socially expected to hang out with girls. I mean don’t get him wrong, even after he came out, Lance still hung out with plenty of girls. The problem was how differently the guys and girls treated each other. Boys would pick on the girls and hang out after school whenever they wanted. Girls would gossip and play dumb around crushes. The entire thing felt so wrong to Lance because why couldn’t everyone just chill together like in fifth grade?After a while, Lance really dreaded going to school because the entire time he felt so anxious and uncomfortable all the time for seemingly no reason and he started to believe there was something wrong with him.Finally one day when he was watching YouTube videos (probably avoiding homework) when he came across a Q&A video (I’d like to believe it was someone like Miles McKenna). Lance was confused at first but then he googled the term transgender and it all just sort of clicked. That’s when he knew.
