March 18 is Transit Driver Appreciation Day and also Awkward Moments Day. Have a good one!
PHASE 3, 4, 5.
Phase 3
I went to Phase 3 after class. I was freaking out because I have a pretty bad memory, and today I wasn't training with Ana. Instead, I was training with Kyle who was being watched by Dana (our lead DT). I was a bit uneasy...I don't know why..maybe it's because I was more comfortable with Ana.
It took me a while to do the DMV pre-trip just because I didn't have a lot of it memorized, and the part that Ana had me work on was so difficult! It was very repetitive and closely related, so I kept messing up. I just gotta practice more...sigh*
Then we finally took the bus on a run. Did a couple of Vet Med loops and then went out to tackle the Q-Line. That shit was long as fuck. And omg...it was just ugh. After the Q line. We got back to MU and Kyle had me park the bus in one of the spots. Then when I pulled out, it was all fine and dandy.
However, when I was pulling out of the MU, I hopped a curb. ): Omfg, the sadness that took over me. I wanted to get through training without hopping a curb...but that ruined it. ): Sad life so sad. But it's cools. I called Comm, reported it and then since it wasn't super bad damage, I was on my way again shortly.
Ran the G, and it was g...cuhs yeah. That traffic circle after Anderson and Hanover doee..fuck man. I hate that traffic circle so much! And the loop to come back around to go inbound..damn...hate that shit .
Then went back to the SILO, Kyle and Dana debriefed me and then I was well on my way.
Phase 4
Phase 4 was well, tiring. I had to have all of my stuff memorized...but it wasn't all there. ): sigh pies. But it's okay. I had to take a quiz on the phonetic codes and the 10-codes which I passed with no problems. Then a couple of route questions, which I missed 2 because I misread the thing. But tis cool! I did well (: . We only went over the part she assigned me to memorize. And then we did the Unitrans pre-trip which is WAY faster and shorter than the DMV pre-trip. Thank the LORD!
We ran the T morning. I kinda ran over another curb...but it wasn't too bad...so yeah. We wrote it up at the end. Stopped at the Davis HS and as we pulled out and I was crossing the stop sign intersection, I saw another bus. It was the F line, and so as I was passing I looked and low and behold! It was David VERM driving the bus! So I waved at him and was on my way.
Then we went back to the SILO and off to the C line and the J line. I met some trainers, Jose and Omar. Again, that bus loop is such a bitch. Then that was the end of training. Ana told me I needed to work more on keeping centered in my lane...so yeah. that was that.
I thought I'd have a break from working this weekend, but then Ana texted me at 8pm and asked me if I wanted to train on Saturday, I was a bit concerned, but she told me not to worry too much and that she'll be more lenient since it was last minute. So I said yes, and started to study for the stuff for phase 5 ASAP.
Phase 5
This one felt like it took forever! I had most of my stuff down despise the fact that it was pretty last minute. During this phase, I got to drive on the freeway! OMFG. It was a little exhilarating and omg...scary. ahah I already feel like i'm going at 50 while driving 25mph....imagine driving up to 65mph on the freeway..with a HUGE ASS BUS. damn....
Did the D, V, W tripper, and A line. All these lines were pretty long..well 2 long 2 short. Then we did some silo parking shit. I had to back up....into the spot where tripper busses park..and omg, it was such a fail ): I did so bad. tears for days. I cannot back into a parking spot...to save my life. But I guess I just gotta practice more.
Jose was there again and he helped us back into the lot, but he called me Julia! Where the heck did he get that name?! Lol, so he told me I'd have to get him food for helping and i said I would..but then he called me Julia so I TOOK back the offer. Then he just kpet calling me that and giving me a hard time, so at the end of him he;ping, I said "THANKS OSCAR" lol. (since the day before we met Jose and Omar, but then Ana thought Omar's name was Oscar...so I decided to call Jose Oscar). He was so hurt, but that's that! HAHA Ana gave me a high five for giving him a good burn!
But omg...freeway driving. Scariest thing in the world.
While I was doing the A line, some asshole kept honking at me because I slowed down to the appropriate speed at a traffic circle! i'm like "come on dude...this bus says TRAINING. Give a girl a break!" shieet..
then training was done, Ana told me I did better on my lane positioning. SCORE! But I just have to work on watching my right side and working on my turns.
Phase 6
Most of this phase was just Ana going over the rules for Tipsy taxi and charters and all the different things that goes hand-in-hand with being hired for Unitrans. It was pretty boring, but it was a break from all the hard driving work I've been doing this weekend. Damn..I trained all 4 days.....
Then we took out one of the tipsy taxis. Or as well call it, the Marshmallow. The pre=trip was a lot faster. I had to explain procedures for the air brakes, but it wasn't too bad. Then off we went.
Got to bond with Ana today since we were driving the Tipsy Taxi. Ana was telling me all the locations we could pick up and drop off and where all the bars were. I was like "Damn, now I know where to go for my 21st." lolol and then we jsut kinda talked about drinking and partying and all that jazz. It was good! Haha we had many things in common.
I like Ana, she's a great trainer! And I love talking to her! It's pretty easy and not awks at all. Then we finished up and headed back to the Pad.
I don't think I have training this upcoming week, but we'll have to see. It's also move-out / move-in week for a lot of people...so yeah.
Almost half way through training!
