Transition cities
From what I've been reading transition towns are gaining some attention. These vary in design evidently but their purpose is to abandon wasteful infrastructure to build a sustainable community. As much as I enjoy the concept and want to learn more about them I don't see any use in leaving (most) of our cities. There are some places people shouldn't be living, economically or environmentally, but ultimately it'll always be their choice. I do believe in green urban design and would rather see growth in an existing city than a brand new town. Both will happen though and I'm looking forward to contributing to either or.
