Jodi Couture’s journey to becoming a hip-hop artist begins in Kingston, Jamaica where she was born. From there she moved to New York City and at the age of nine she first began rapping which she did for a short period of time. Even though she had stopped rapping for a time, she was still always around music, her brother is a rapper and so are many of her friends. This encouraged her to begin rapping again this time taking it more seriously. Jodi Couture cites Lauryn Hill, Jay-Z, Meek Mills, and Gucci Mane as her influences.
Her glam fashion sense and sex appeal has made her a popular choice for hosting parties in the United States and Jamaica and she has appeared in several music videos including her starring role in Vybz Kartel’s “I’ve Been in Love with You.
Her first single "Trap Hoe,” is an empowering response to men who think by calling a woman a hoe they can demean and devalue them. Jodi Couture takes that word, strips it of its power, and uses it as a rallying cry to empower herself and other women.
Although she talks about making money in her songs, Jodi Couture readily admits that money is not the driving force behind her musical aspirations but using the art form to express issues that are important to women. She feels that music is something that she was born to do and plans on making great music for many years to come.
