😒 Is there anything canon about your muse that you ignore?
//So I usually try to walk as closely with canon as I can when I write protagonists because I tend to like canon for the most part. I can only think of three little things however that I do clash with canon about when it comes to Selene hkfdhd.
The first being of course, age of adventure. I know the game hints 11 or if I recall correctly Wicke says “You must be around 11, right?” and yes, while I know every protagonist of Pokemon is pretty young save for gen V and VI, I personally prefer the idea of the game taking place with everyone being at later ages. I went with Selene starting her journey at 14 because it’s a more believable age to me and still leaves a lot of room for growth and transition as she grows older. I also wanted to emphasize how she had to wait to start her journey because the earliest age is ten.
The second it was really a matter of timing. I started my blog during the time of SuMo and during that time, of course there was mention of the protagonist having a father, but like many games he isn’t seen. After a while I headcanoned that Selene’s parents divorced, and that they had a rocky relationship (if a relationship) but then HERE COMES USUM. And there’s a little line by Rotom that mentions your mother receiving a letter from your father in Kanto, and that it made her very happy. I feel crushed under the weight of not adhering to canon, but at the same time…I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. Now have I considered changing headcanons to abide by canon? Yes. But I think of how her family dynamic has affected her a lot and I think it’s a lot of hassle to go through just to stay close to canon.
Okay there’s one more tiny one regarding her encounter with Red and Blue/Green at the battle tree–I like to imagine it was not a full six on six battle that she had with Red, but a quick three on three that ended essentially in a draw (though she was more in trouble and considers it a loss).
