but strawberries and cigarettes always taste like you
"Wait for me!" Travis' voice came from behind me as I ran through the strawberry fields. Every Sunday, like a ritual, we always found ourselves here. In the strawberry fields.
"Only if you can catch me," I tease, pumping my legs harder. I not-so-subtly used my powers to my advantage, creating vines behind my steps, in a hope that Travis will trip.
Warm arms wrap around my waist, lifting me into the air and twirling me around. I begin giggling like a schoolgirl, turning around in Travis' arms once he sets me down. My arms find their way around his neck, smiling at him with so much adoration. His fingers begin lightly tickling my sides, earning more giggles from me as I wiggle in his grasp.
"We can either keep playing this game of cat and mouse," Travis offers, tickling me a little harder, "or we can go eat some strawberries."
Being able to talk while being tickled may be the hardest thing to exist. "Strawberries," I manage to let out in-between laughs, sighing out once his fingers still.
He waits a couple of seconds while I regain my breath before he intertwines our fingers, dragging me out of the rows of strawberry bushes and towards our oak tree. The white blanket stretches out underneath the shade, the large wooden basket of delicious red strawberries being the center of attention. We finally make it to the blanket, plopping down on the fabric as I tug the heavy basket towards us.
"Now, we can't eat all of these," I narrow my eyes at Travis, who looks at me with feign shock.
"Me? Eat all of them? I would never."
I raise my brow at him, earning a playful grin from him before I begin distributing a couple strawberries to each of us to eat. Silence overtakes us as we eat, a light breeze joining us on the beautiful summer day. Once I deem myself needing a break from eating, I rest my head on his lap, admiring the green leaves of the oak tree that covers us.
Travis' fingers find my chin, moving my head to face him. I laugh at the scene before me--half a strawberry is in his mouth, though he makes no effort to begin eating it. Instead, he dips his head down, waiting for me to accept. I roll my eyes playfully, giving into his antics.
My teeth grab hold of the remaining strawberry, biting down on the sweet fruit as the juice fills my mouth. I barely manage to chew and swallow the fruit before Travis steals a kiss, his lips tasting sweet--like strawberries. I giggle into the kiss, feeling him smile. He kisses me one, two, three more times before he lets me go, smiling at me as I fall into a fit of laughter.
"You taste sweet," he murmurs, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear.
My cheeks warm at his words. No matter how long we've been together, the slightest compliment always makes me flustered. The dam tease knows it, too. I lift my hand towards his head, secretly conjuring a daisy flower in the palm of my hand. I tuck the flower behind his ear, complimenting his messy brown hair perfectly.
