The Traymore, 1929, Indianapolis (elle mcphee)
Living on Dwight St.
Students are often cautioned against living in the Dwight neighborhood. Granted, it is not one of the safer regions of New Haven, but it does offer cheaper living - and with the shuttle at your fingertips, you can skip the blight on your way to bed on Dwight.
Of the options available on Dwight Street, the most popular with the YSoA crew is the Traymore. As one student testifies, "The neighborhood beyond Howe can be sketchy at times, but there are some great values beyond. The Traymore offers really large apartments for the cost, especially if you share a two- or three-bedroom, which is very common. It may be advisable to use the Yale Shuttle for transportation home late at night, particularly for the final block along Chapel which has no retail or really any other sidewalk presence. Rest assured, though, that Ronnell and the YPD are on the case, and the recent addition of Rudy’s at Chapel and Howe assures at least some sidewalk presence within ear shot of any of the buildings by the intersection of Chapel and Dwight."
And if you don't live on Dwight, you're sure to get a glimpse at one of many soirees hosted by architecture folk who live there.
