there were a lot of things luther wanted to talk to travis about, their music, the amas, bella. but for two people that lived together it was almost impossible for their schedules to match. but today they specifically made sure that they had the whole day free to hang out, maybe write and record some stuff, but mostly just to catch up and spend some time together. luther can’t remember they last time they went this long without seeing each other, even in high school when they were in different social circles they always hung out together after school, pizza rolls, xbox, and the x-files. he was in the kitchen, cooking up some dinner for the two of them because he feels that they’ve been eating take out too much lately. also, he wanted to discuss bella and what was going on between travis and her and maybe trav would be more likely to talk about it on a full stomach. “travis, you fat lard, come get your dinner!” he started serving a plate for his bestie, because that’s what bros do.

The show had finally come to a close and it was safe to say Bella was happy to be off the stage. Everything had gone according to plan, including her own performance but she was glad to not have all eyes on her after a long night of the public waiting for her to screw up. She was back in her dressing room, wrapped up in a satin robe, lounging on the couch and drinking champagne as she tried to come down from the adrenaline high and mentally prepare herself for all manners of after parties she’d be obligated to attend later in the night. The door to the room had been left slightly ajar and she glanced up from her phone, catching sight of a familiar frame in her peripheral. @trcvls

“i have no idea if red wine goes with chinese but it’s all i have.” jade shrugged, returning from her kitchen with the bottle and placing it on the coffee table which was loaded with way too many takeout containers. “i’m taking the sweet and sour chicken but the pork dumplings from this place are literally the best so i suggest those. i probably got half the menu though so take whatever looks good,” she said, gesturing at the table with a pair of chopsticks. @trcvls

it had been 12 days, 16 hours, and 37 minutes since luther had actually seen travis in their apartment. the only thing that has let him know his best friend has been home is the empty cereal bowls in the kitchen sink. luther was sitting on travis’ bed, having decided to finally step into the room. there was an unspoken rule between them that their bedrooms were off limits, considering every aspect of their lives were intertwined they needed one space that wasn’t attached to the other. it wasn’t done out of annoyance or frustration of being so dependent, but more out of survival. except things were different now. luther hadn’t seen his bandmate/best friend in so long and he was nearing a breaking point. he looked around the bedroom, noting the dirty clothes on the floor, the magazines tossed onto a bedside table, and cables all tangled under the tv stand. it all irked him, seeing the room disheveled but he knew that that’s how travis liked it. he kept looking around the room and he wondered briefly what made travis stay cooped up in here while he avoided luther. maybe... if it wasn’t as welcoming he’d go into the living room, a shared space that luther could trap him in. he didn’t realize what he was doing, but he was beginning to pick up all the clothes on the floor and tossing all the crumpled pieces of paper into the bin. it went beyond just cleaning, soon it felt like he was on auto-pilot and was beginning to rearrange things into the way that made luther calm down. he set things up the same way they were in his room, even going as far as moving furniture around so that the two had the same layout. when things were to luther’s satisfaction he laid back down on travis’ bed, staring up at the ceiling. he still felt as if he was on auto-pilot, and maybe distancing himself with his emotions is what made it easier for him to fall asleep, accidentally doing so on his best friend’s bed.

bella was feeling okay and even if the happiness was artificial it was good enough to carry her through the night. the drugs acted as an armor and every time someone threw her a thinly veiled jibe about the tape, it bounced right off though plenty of guys seemed to think that because she’d agreed to be filmed there wasn’t much she wouldn’t do. she was dancing with one of them who probably thought he was going home with her, too high to consider where his hands were roaming. the crowd around them shifted and then she saw travis amongst the bodies with an unreadable expression. the second her eyes landed on him she realized she hadn’t heard from him in quite some time and that instantly checked the euphoria she’d been reveling in. it took her a moment but she separated from the guy glued to her backside and slipped through the crowd until she was standing right in front of him, arms tightly crossed over her chest in that self-preserving way. “huh, i didn’t know a rave was the only way to get in touch with you.” her tone was joking but only in the forced way, a pathetic attempt not to sound like the sad girl who wanted to know why he hadn’t called. @trcvls

getting out of her house had been a true production ever since the amas. for whatever reason, the discovery that she and simon had briefly dated years ago was headline news and she was being hounded everywhere she went, mostly due to the fact that simon and killian were close friends. at least they were moving away from the narrative that she’d cheated with arie. she’d made a true mess of her image when it came to getting involved with the wrong guys and the sad part was, she didn’t have feelings for any of them. then there was the side the cameras didn’t see, wherein she kept sleeping with travis, no strings attached, only to become irrationally upset when he broke things off to try and be with someone else. she knew it wouldn’t work out and she was right because there she was, sneaking out of the back of her apartment building to go over to his place. 

she knew she shouldn’t do this and she should be reminding herself of the way she felt after the last time they hooked up. she’d felt like a stupid, weak, girl that no one ever wanted as their first choice and maybe this just proved that those suspicions were true. usually, she was very chatty with her driver but that evening she had nothing to say and remained silent the whole ride over to trav’s place. she was going over there so they could talk in person but there wasn’t really much left to talk about. somehow she made it to his front door, knocking twice and wondering if he was sitting in there waiting for her to show up, feeling as tense as she was.  @trcvls
