Tree Adventures & God Save the Queen
My second week of work was eased by two office social events. The first event was a trip to a ropes course suspended high in the trees with just my team. On Wednesday, we all left the office after lunch to drive to Tree Adventures.
We were given a safety briefing and then were free to try any of the 10 courses available - each one of varying difficulty. I did Levels 4, 5, 7, and 8 before I called it quits; however, several of my coworkers were able to complete levels 9 and 10. Not bad for a group of engineers!
As a reward for all of our hard work that day, we went to a brewery for some food and drinks. We all bonded over snarky comments and a little arm wrestling. It was a great way to get to know the team.
On Friday the other team organized a BYO (bring your own) in honor of their interns’ last day. The other Americans on my team joined in and grabbed some wine before heading to the Thai restaurant for our reservation.
There, I was taught about the game called “God Save the Queen”, where someone drops a coin denoted by the Queen’s face in your cup. You are then tasked with saving the Queen from drowning and the only way is to finish your drink. It felt a little like I was in college again but with better food. Fun was had by all... until the next day.
