Tree Avenue by Dirk Seifert
Mammatus clouds, reddened by the setting sun on the left horizon, on the right a horizontal lightning caused by wind blowing the lightning channel sideways.
November the 15th.
I crossed the misty football pitch behind the orchard as the sun set, and found what I can only assume to be a secret area. It was a birch tree-lined walkway, the ground of which was filled nearly a foot deep with crunchy orange birch leaves. There were beehives and a woodpile, and a knot of tangled black trees, thick with thorns and screaming birds. How had I never been down there? Perhaps it is only accessible at sunset or something. But how could I fail to see something as large as a birch tree walkway in 11 years of being at a place??
Fountain outside my town’s university.
