Bringing a little wildness to the urban landscape
When we think of hedges in towns and cities we tend to think of formal, neatly clipped green boxes screening manicured front gardens on residential streets. But urban hedges don’t have to be like that. They can be wild, twisted things, woven together from different trees and shrubs, bursting with blossom in springtime, laden with fruit in the autumn, and providing a home for wildlife all year round. And that is the image of the hedge that The Tree Council has been striving to introduce to urban communities through their latest project, ‘Wild Hedges For Urban Edges’.

Want to help make London greener?
Boris Johnson is calling on Londoners to roll up their sleeves and help plant 12,000 trees across the capital, as part of his commitment to get London greener and inspire volunteering.
During National Tree Week, Team London - the Mayor’s volunteering programme - is looking for 400 volunteers to help out at a series of mass planting events.
