I’m revisiting WIP pages I haven’t checked on / updated in ages, literally about a year or two, and I found THIS--

I haven’t written a single word of [TREE Book 3] yet, but it will probably be my NaNoWriMo 2020 project.

That is contingent on me finishing rewriting SOLE November of this year 2018, rewriting TREE book one over 2019, finishing book two’s first draft NaNo 2019, rewriting it over summer 2020, and then finally starting the first draft of book three NaNo 2020.

That’s a tentative timeline. I have no idea if it’s going to work out that way, since I’m writing this September 2018, but that’s the plan.

To be fair, this was written two months before I came up with LiaHT and its sequels, so I only had SOLE and TREE to work on, but WHAT KIND OF AMBITION LMAO

(for context, TREE is the old acronym for what is now the LORE Series, back when it was in its fetal urban fantasy form instead of its current high fantasy)

BIG HUGE LONG ANNOUNCEMENT POST HERE WE GO

I don’t talk about my seven book fantasy series as much as I do SOLE or even LiaHT, but hoo boy, that might be about to change, y’all.

Yesterday, after a brilliantly exciting series of dots connecting through my mind, I made the decision to transform my urban fantasy series featuring Ash and Zach into a high fantasy series.

The Recovery and Existence Experts --> The Legend Of Reality’s Ebullition

* ebullition: (noun) boiling over, agitation, outbreak

- WHY?

So many reasons.

It’s a change of pace--I’ve never written anything where I had to create the world before--and I think it will be fun.

It lets me play around with the magic system more and more blatantly, and I don’t have to worry about getting details right (travel times? NYC details? etc). I have a feeling it’s going to be pretty freeing.

The overarching Villain’s motivations are over the top and fit better in a high fantasy environment where I can let him be as “Take over the world” as he wants.

Also, I get to make maps!

- WHO? WHERE?

The cast isn’t changing! We’re still keeping Ash, Zach, Satan, everybody you might have grown attached to. 

What IS changing is that we’re no longer telling the story of their work for an organization in NYC that hides the existence of nonhuman creatures from humanity and protects them.

Instead, we are telling their story in the world of Lanithon. Lanithon is one giant continent, divided into countries that are home to different races. More on that later.

More specifically, the city of Vanithea! Vanithea is a capital city, if not capital of the entire continent, and home to the Auxiliaries. What were previously different floors of the TREE building are now different districts of the city. So you’ve got your oceanic district, your fae district, etc.

The Auxiliaries are the peacekeeping organization of Vanithea, and the thing I’m changing TREE into so Ash and Zach can still have jobs helping fantasy creatures solve their problems.

Their backstories are changing a bit, too! The TLDR is that Ash’s parents were famous explorers who disappeared and she’s lived in the city with Gran ever since, while Zach is a hick farm boy adjusting to big city life.

- WHAT?

SEVEN BOOKS! That structure isn’t changing! The order changed a little bit, though, so have some alliterative titles and one-sentence summaries.

Satan’s Secretary: When a demonic envoy arrives in Vanithea for the first time ever, Ash Gentum lands a job as Satan’s right hand advisor.

Disappearing Dwarves: Serial disappearances lead Ash, Zach, and Satan to investigate any troubles happening in the neighboring dwarven country.

Pixie Plague: When Fae folk inadvertently spread an airborne toxin throughout Lanithon that leaves humans one of the only races unaffected, it’s up to Ash and Zach to find a cure before it’s too late.

Fiery Frenzy: A hybrid dragon that shouldn’t exist attacks Vanithea, killing hundreds and pushing Ash and Zach to get to the bottom of this.

Oceanic Odyssey: Still recovering from the attack, Ash and Zach set out to consult the merfolk that live near a local ring of undersea volcanoes.

Gathering Griffins: Barely home from the sea, Ash and Zach return to Vanithea to hear that a griffin stronghold has been attacked and they are needed to accompany the diplomacy team up into the mountains.

Unicorn Uprising: The existence of a hybrid dragon and the tragedies of the recent years awaken the unicorns, who leave their magic sanctuary in order to lead the final battle to restore balance to Lanithon yet again.

- GOING FORWARD?

Character tags and inspo tags are staying the same, but I’m abandoning tree series in favor of a new tag, lore series. 

New moodboards, new maps, new names, and new character info coming soon!

I’m leaving the WIP Page for TREE Series up, but only as a relic, a monument to the past, etc. There will be an entirely new one set up for the LORE Series as a whole, and I will be reworking the individual book pages to accurately reflect these changes over the coming days!

I will be using the TREE Series taglist as the LORE Series taglist, so if the things I’ve outlined here don’t sound like your cup of tea anymore, be sure to let me know. Or if this stuff does sound like your cup of tea now, let me know that, too, and I’ll add you!

Finally, this truly feels like what TREE was always meant to be. I have always loved Ash and Zach, but the story as an overarching whole has never filled me with as much excitement and passion as it does now, in this LORE form. So if you have asks to send, I implore you: send them!

Storyteller Saturday : Do you remember the initial idea that started the LORE series? What was it?

I do remember! It’s a bit of a story tho...

So back in 2016, I was sitting in a Florida IHOP, exquisitely exhausted after a Disneyworld trip, and I had a brilliant vision of a seven book series spawn in front of my eyes based off of one prompt.

The prompt in question was about fighting your fears in a maze, and I built an entire world around the idea to make that moment happen and make sense in the story.

The world in question was an urban fantasy take on NYC, sort of like a Men in Black organization keeping the existence of nonhuman creatures under wraps.

It worked, for a while, and I was writing it on and off despite not knowing anything about New York. It wasn’t my favorite thing to write, but I did my NaNo16 on it and I would write it when I wasn’t writing anything else.

AND THEN, just in 2019, I had a similar vision of the same story and characters, but in a high fantasy world. The more I thought about it, the more I realized it would work way better, so I decided to go with it!

I spent August, September and October finishing the rewrite of SOLE and building n planning and converting the TREE Series into the LORE Series, and then I wrote the new version of Satan’s Secretary in November for nano19!

And that’s the story so far.
