The skunk spaniel, native to the wetland areas of the southeastern United States, has widely recognized conspicuous markings and a piercing warning bark to alert predators that it is not approachable. It hunts boldly, its stark plumage standing out well in the long marsh grasses and sandy brush of its home environment. It builds a camouflaged nest in a safe, cool niche where it can watch over its territory from safety.
