Hardiness Zones
North America is divided into 10 zones based on average yearly low temperatures. These zones are called Hardiness Zones. All tree species thrive in certain temperatures, and you can easily find the right tree species for your local temperature range by knowing which zone you are in.
Utah is very unique in that it contains 4 different hardy zones, zones 4-8. While we are predominantly zone 6, we still have the other 3 zones in our beautiful state. This means that you’re able to have a wider range of trees that are able to thrive in your yard than anywhere else in the nation! The Colorado Blue Spruce does great in zones 2-7, Austrian Pine thrives in 4-8, Bristlecone Pine does well in 3-7, and the Pinyon Pine is hardy in zones 5-8. This is great news for you as these are the four main trees that we offer, and all of them are grown locally so they’re already used to the weather conditions.
We’ve got a great hardiness zone tool that will let you know what zones you’re located in. All you have to do is enter in your zip code and it’ll populate the zones that are best for where you’re currently living. Once you’ve figured out your zones you can get to work on planning your yard around the trees and other foliage that’ll do best in your yard.
