The Smartphone Challenge

When climbing Mount Katahdin this year, I setup a challenge for my fellow climbers. The challenge was to capture the best footage for the Trekkit TV show using a Nokia Lumia 800 (I had three to loan out). The winner would win a gift certificate to their partner’s favorite restaurant. There is a first and second place prize.

I have picked my winners, but before I declare them I want to know what you think as I might have to change my mind! 

Take a look at the raw clips below and leave a comment in the comments section on which clip you think is the best content for the show. Also take a look at last year’s climb, Tale of Two Mountains.

Grand Manan Trekk

The Trekkit Team travelled to Grand Manan to film an episode for Trekkit TV. We set out to watch some whales but the wind was too great for the boat to go out. That did not dampen our adventuring spirit and we enjoyed what the island had to offer. There are great hiking trails, majestic scenery, and marvellous sunsets.

You take the ferry from Black's Harbour for 1.5 hours, the ride gets you relaxed and ready to enjoy the island.

If you are ever in New Brunswick I highly recommend visiting.

Trekkit TV Trailer

Hi Everyone,

We have spent many hours this spring and summer filming for the Trekkit TV show which will air on Bell Aliant Community One and on the web at Trekkit.TV this Fall.

Mount Katahdin 2012

We set out on June 15th to hike Mount Katahdin and film an episode for Trekkit TV. Thanks to Ian Wilson our guide for getting us there and back. Thanks to Dr. Rodney McAffee for being the subject matter expert for the hike, he taught us many interesting facts about the formation of the mountain.  Paul and I (Ryan) were the camera crew and equipment mules. Camera gear gets heavy very quickly hiking up a mountain.

It was a beautiful day with great a temperature, blue sky, and less wind than normal on the top.

I have decided I am going to leave the climbing to sheep and other people much more fit than me. I did enough climbing to realize that going up and down rock walls is not for me.

The day was a blast and was better than sitting behind a computer all day. Here at Trekkit, we are trying to get outside and be more active instead of sitting in front of a computer all day and night, and we hope you will to.

The next climb is Mount Carleton which will be a lot less intense but a good day outside.
