Tilly is swiftly becoming my lodestar. When bad shit happens in my personal life or at work, asking "What would Sylvia Tilly do?" injects my interpersonal problem solving skillset with her realistic optimism and that Tilly magic where she isn't just a good person herself, she makes other people want to be as good as she is. How has she changed your life?

Tilly has helped me accept the fact that I like to ramble & that’s not a bad thing. I have dealt with a lot of people treating me like I’m an imposition for just being me or having thoughts or feelings and voicing them, so this is kind of a huge deal.

Also, my hope for her character is not a romantic entanglement but professional success, and that kind of mirrors my hopes for my own life.

This is a real pet peeve of mine.  it really does feel like people can’t imagine a society different from their own, in which their religious/cultural practices are not exactly replicated and so dominant they drown out everyone else’s... even when it’s been very clearly presented by the canon.

Every year I feel like I go through this cycle of resentment and frustration, but I can’t give up hope that some change may grow someday.

People covering Star Trek in Christmas makes me so salty. 

It just drives home the level of Christian Privilege they aren’t even aware of but is so blatantly obvious through their actions.  Star Trek is very intentionally secular and people can claim all their want that they are being “diverse” by believing that human religions still exist anyway but when you keep assuming everyone celebrates Christmas (or at least that’s all you show) it’s pretty obvious they just can’t get out of their own experience and even imagine something else. 

Also it’s like...  so boring.  If you are going to insist on putting religion back in Trek do something interesting with it.  How have space travel and contact with alien races and instant transport etc affected the evolution of religion (hint: the religions with the same name didn’t always look the same and even if they survive they will change and adapt)?  What new religions exist? Did some humans convert to alien religions? Did some aliens convert to human religions?

Final note: The topic always makes me mad about how much people don’t respect/appreciate Babylon 5, which actually did what people claim they want to do to Star Trek, which is show humanity having its full diversity of religions in space.
