@trenchlordb always dropping gems for the people. Follow my bro and take notes. Been doing this thing longer than most 🙌 ・・・ Even though music production has made a strong shift to digital.. I believe that the human ear will always appreciate ᒪIᐯE ᑎᑌᗩᑎᑕE. An example of this would be the natural changes in velocity (volume) you hear when physical instruments are played. Recreating ᑎᑌᗩᑎᑕE will not only add dynamic to your sound(s).. but adding it to specific ones such as 'Hi-Hats'.. will give your beat over all.. it’s own unique swing. This helps your production stand out in an artist’s catalog of beats that have been traditionally quantized at 100%. There are a few ways to achieve this in your DAW as it relates to velocity. The manual approach.. is to go through and raise or lower note velocity to your liking. For FL Studio users.. a shortcut is to press [Ctl + A] to highlight your notes in the piano roll.. then press [Alt + R] to instantly ᖇᗩᑎᗪOᗰIᘔE the velocity of those selected notes. @trenchlordb ・・・ As creatives.. you guys have the freedom to craft without limitation. No rules.. no ceilings.. no boundaries. I decided to take a bit of a rebellious approach myself when it came to composing the drum pattern for this beat. After going back and forth between 808’s.. and digging the vibe of each.. I decided.. hey.. why not keep both 🤷🏾‍♂️💡. The key to executing this.. was to sequence them in TᗩG TEᗩᗰ fashion. The job of the 808 with the inverted grit or ᗰᑌᗪᗪ.. is to establish this basis of the pattern. The task of the other.. having a higher range of frequency.. is to glide in specific pockets.. to create swing (the💧lol). Using the ᑕᑌT ITᔕEᒪᖴ feature.. found in most DAWs.. I was able to trigger both 808’s throughout the loop without bleed or clash. Follow @trenchlordb - What’s your approach to laying sounds? It’s will known that adding body and presence to a beat can be achieved by layering sounds.. but the key is to layer those selected sounds in a way that’s complimentary. Before building layers.. here’s an approach I recommend. Apply an equalizer to your first sound.. (preferably one with Spectral Analysis). The Spectral will give you a visual (usually in colors) of where in the frequency spectrum the sound is most present.. (low’s , mid’s or hi’s). If your an FL Studio user.. an example of this style of eq is ᖴᖇᑌITY ᑭᗩᖇᗩᗰETᖇIᑕ Eᑫ 2. After identifying your sound’s frequencies.. begin laying with sounds that fit into those open spots in the frequency spectrum. If your first sound is low/mid range heavy.. try adding a sound that’s primarily mid/hi.
