Hajime: [lawyer voice] the prosecution makes a compelling argument, but have you considered this *puts middle finger up*
“But when y’ve seen the worst it can get, you….you can change it. Y’can make sure it never happens again.”
“Y’can make people listen. Y’can tell ‘em. An’....an’ it can all change.”
“It will change.”
“It’s….it’s all gonna change.”
“Our time here…..this killing game. Is over.”

After some initial posturing by the Prosecution, Rossano Troisi commenced the day’s evidence into the murder trial of Osborne Montague by calling another Watch officer to the stand. Felicity Strozza has been an investigating officer with the Watch for nearly ten years but this was her first substantive homicide investigation. Prior to her transfer to the homicide division, Officer Strozza was a senior office in the fraud unit.
Felicity Strozza was calm and professional while giving evidence having testified on prior occasions in unrelated matters. She was the officer in command of the search of the penthouse residence of Osborne Montague. She began her evidence by showing a room by room walk through of the residence and explaining each location prior to the commencement of the search. The residence was clean and well organized. Renovations had been conducted earlier in the year, making the penthouse seem almost spartan. The elaborate playroom drew some gasps of appreciation from the gallery and the jury.
The Officer confirmed that they found no evidence of missing items, such as clothing or shoes. No trace evidence of the deceased’s presence in the home such as hair, blood or tissue samples. In fact there was only one item in the home that linked directly to Rosemund Reed. The prosecutor approached and handed the witness a cellophane encased item. She confirmed this was the item that was found. Mr. Troisi then held up the item for judge and jury to see while a photograph flashed up on the screen. It was the earring that appeared to match the earring found on the deceased. A ripple of conversation and gasps could be heard throughout the courtroom and Justice Capulet had to call everyone to order once again or risk removal from the courtroom.
Officer Strozza confirmed she did not have any other evidence to provide. It was not possible due to the selection of clothing items in the closet to determine if any items were missing. There were no obvious gaps or missing items. Further she could not account for any attendance in the home by Rosemund Reed aside from a security log that indicated she had been there at least one time. There was no evidence in the visitor log as to further visits by the deceased. The visitor log was entered into evidence.
Spencer Montague’s cross-examination of the Watch Officer was brief. She agreed that she could not indicate when or how the earring had come to be in the penthouse. Further she agreed that home was clean and well-kept. The Officer was dismissed with gratitude from the Court for her service.
In A World With No Happy Endings...How Do You Pick Your Poison? || Meifen || Trial 6.5 || RE: The Architect
For a while, that single tear that had escaped Meifen's grasp was all it was. A single slip of control. A simple piece of misplaced liquid. The static began to fill her head again, but this time she wasn't afforded the luxury of split-second hearing loss.
This time, she was listening to the entire thing.
That thundering of her heart only grew sharper and more painful as the details of their situation was laid out to them. As expected, this entire scenario was much bigger than all of them. Hell, it was even bigger than the individuals who were orchestrating this standstill they had all reached.
Every person here, from the Akito the King, to Amora the Knight, to the murderous Bishops and their victimized Rooks, all the way down to the pitiful Surviving Pawns who had pushed past all the others and now stood at the edge of the board looking back at the carnage they had just narrowly avoided.
In the rules of this game, pawns who reach the end of the board are granted the luxury of becoming Queens. Queens can move in any direction they please. They should be able to choose their own destiny...
But what was the point of choices when no matter how well you consider your next move, only checkmate will await you in the end.
They had won this 'game' but there was no prize to be wrought. Instead, all that awaited them were existences where they would never be the same. They would never be free. Both Hope's Peak Academy and 'Himiko Holdings' had assured that this surviving group would never know the likes of freedom again...
And maybe that's what finally ripped away the strength Meifen Jiang had built up until this moment. This time, she didn't even bother to try and stop herself. Again, what did it matter...?
"T-This isn't a choice that changes much a-aside from whether you live or die."
She croaked, her voice broken and unstable.
"W-Whether we choose t' execute you o-or spare your life - you a-and the academy have robbed us of our futures. T-There's no longer a place for happiness here. T-There's no longer a reason to hope..."
Removing her glasses with a stilted motion, the Speedrunner stares at The Architect like a wounded animal. That's all she was, right? A caged, lacerated. lab rat.
"D-Do you really think Hope's Peak Academy will let us l-live our lives at peace if we killed you and left? I-If what you said is true, w-we'll b-become their puppets too i-if we weren't already. T-The media will hound us a-and pry into the survivors o-of this game in their sick sense of curiosity a-and desire for profit."
The girl lets out a shaken breath that comes across more as a sob.
"I-If we save you a-and stay here, I-I'm leaving my dad behind. I-I'm leaving my friends, m-my family's source of income - all of it. A-All of it b-because you involved u-us in something that none of us w-wanted t' be apart of!"
Even as she yelled across the courtroom to the man on the throne the anger swelling in her tone was less directed just at him and more at this entire situation. Biting back another sob, Meifen bows her head and holds herself. She doesn't care anymore how the others look at her. Nothing really matters.
"...Y-You and the academy have ruined our l-lives. H-How are we supposed t' choose w-which is better? I just w-wanted to be normal... W-Why can I never have a n-normal life...?"
Defeated | Chapter 6
After hearing everyone’s answers, Lilith’s lip twitched into a frown and her brow furrowed.
“You imbeciles...”
Lilith sighs as she pulls on the rim of her hat to hide the shock and disappointment drawn on her face.
“Fine, grow, be yourselves, whatever! But don’t you understand what you can do with this kind of power? That you could--”
“Enough.”
Silence immediately spreads about the conference hall; even Lilith seems somewhat stunned by Theo’s sudden outburst. All attention is directed to the host who had been still the entire time-- did he even move it all until now?
“I think it’s time to give up, Lilith. It’s clear that you have failed to get anyone on board with this, right? Right.”
Theo lifts his arms up over the table and to the sides of him to make a grand sweeping gesture to everyone in the room.
“How disheartening. We could have achieved time travel together! You were all certainly worthy in overcoming convergence and defying the odds that have always guaranteed you to be dead by this very day.”
His arms drop and he leans back into his chair, crossing one leg over the other.
“But that’s okay. It’s made me realise something: I don’t need a partner.”
The host’s eyes now gaze directly at Lilith, her demeanor having changed to one of mixed emotion: disgust, surprise, but most of all something deeper than that. Theo’s words have clearly dawned on her what he means.
“After going through this with you so many times, I think I can take over now. You were a good researcher collecting all this data and masterminding this fateful experiment. I hold no regrets in recruiting you to pursue this time travelling frontier dream I’ve had nor do I lament solely providing you with all the funding that you wouldn’t have managed to get elsewhere.”
“Alas, if you’re no longer useful to me, you’re now an enemy. I have to defeat my enemies to be victorious, but I’m not sure how to silence you... well, there is one way.”
“Even if the world is happy, it’s meaningless if you aren’t happy.”
