Feeling naked without your spinner ring
when you have calluses on your fingers from pulling so much.
Trich and college
Peer: wow you guys have a lot of hair everywhere! Me: *shifts uncomfortably* Roommate: OMG we shed so much don't we? Me: *internal screams* Peer: it must be because you guys both have such long hair! Me: yes. That is exactly why. *sweeps a blanket of hair under bed*
Trichotillomania meets arachnophobia
I can't count the times that I have freaked out because I thought my ripped out hair was a spider..
Really missing how thick and long my hair was three years ago 😔😖
Major pet peeve: people telling me to show them my spots. I don't care if my hair "looks better" and you want to see the progress because It's honestly worse than it was. I'm just doing a better job at hiding it. I wish people would understand this. Argh.
Last night, I again saw the ignorance of people when it comes to trich. After being in a high school for four years with my past bullying that had decreased lots, I got used to most people already knowing about it and accepting the fact that I have this disorder. I got used to being open about it, too, just in case anyone asked. I guess I liked my little bubble of only people who accept me despite my hair. But that bubble is slowly getting stretched and will probably pop when I'm off to college. Last night during my Cru summer small group, we started talking about random things when we were done. It started with college stuff, moved on to snoring, and eventually made it's way to the show, My Strange Addictions. And my gosh, do I HATE that show. Whenever someone talks about it trich someone always works it's way into the picture, and sure enough, it did. What bothers me is that AT LEAST five out of the seven girls there knew I had it, including the one that brought it up. She immediately started talking about eating hair, then another girl (who doesn't know) brought up a girl who say behind her in class that pulled then ate the follicles and acted extremely disgusted by it. Then the first girl pipes back in and as a joke said, "Maybe that girl needs accountability for her hair issues!" I just sat there in shock. I didn't have anything to say, honestly. And you know what else bothers me..? The fact that only ONE person made the slightest attempt to stand up for it. All she said was, "Well I know the hair-pulling is a real thing, but I don't really get the eating part." Thanks for trying, hun, but those things go hand-in-hand for some people with this disorder. I just don't get how people can be so ignorant. If you don't understand something, don't judge it. Bleh. I guess that's another reason I'm here, and have this battle. Time to be more open about it again.
