Newt’s tricks so far! Even with Mia distracting him he still responds really well, very proud of this boy!
Did a little bit of tweaking to Newt’s wave and got more practice in for turning around. He kept closing his foot around his beak so I just kept rewarding him a little bit extra whenever he opened his foot up then worked on getting him to hold his foot up a bit longer since he kept putting it right back down. Turn around he responds to with the tiniest flick instead of having to fully rotate my hand around him anymore which is exactly how I want him to respond!
Newt is a bit of a weird one to train, he gets easily frustrated when learning initially but once he gets the base concept down he’s takes to tiny corrections very quickly. With most of the other birds I’ve worked with they tend to be pretty calm with initial training and get super frustrated when I start asking for specifics. It’s an interesting learning experience for the both of us!
He’s got turn around nailed down now too!
Need to phase out the cue a little bit still but he’s doing great and will respond to the wave command just about anywhere!
Mia was starting to get pretty bored by the end of today’s recording so to end on a positive note we threw in some rapid-fire tricks just so she’d be that much happier before ending the session
Mia’s been taking some great strides in learning this trick, got a little bit more finesse to put in to it but she’s nearly there!
