Did a little bit of tweaking to Newt’s wave and got more practice in for turning around. He kept closing his foot around his beak so I just kept rewarding him a little bit extra whenever he opened his foot up then worked on getting him to hold his foot up a bit longer since he kept putting it right back down. Turn around he responds to with the tiniest flick instead of having to fully rotate my hand around him anymore which is exactly how I want him to respond!
Newt is a bit of a weird one to train, he gets easily frustrated when learning initially but once he gets the base concept down he’s takes to tiny corrections very quickly. With most of the other birds I’ve worked with they tend to be pretty calm with initial training and get super frustrated when I start asking for specifics. It’s an interesting learning experience for the both of us!
