Noah said he looked like the ‘Brawny Man.’
Jacob rolled up the sleeves of his red plaid shirt, then he grabbed a stick to shift the wood a bit in the bonfire. He didn’t want to dress up, but he could see the disappointment in his youngest nephews eyes when he declared he wouldn’t, so he split the difference and decided to be a ‘lumberjack’ which was more or less how he usually dressed. Ocean waves lapped up against the shoreline, the last peek of sun dipping beneath the horizon and painting the sky and sea blue and pink and purple. A small speaker played music from a mystery playlist selected by Noah.
Maybe it was tasteless having a bonfire. Jacob didn’t care. He was not going to let the events of the past couple of weeks ruin bonfires for him. Jacob glanced up as he saw the first few people arrive. “Beers are in the blue cooler. If you want something else, check the red cooler.” The red cooler had hard liquor but no mixers. That wasn’t his problem. “Cups are there. Throw everything in the trash. If I see you littering, I’ll kick your ass.”
