They have been wiped out nearly everywhere else in the world due to their aggressive nature but were raised on the Monster Island facility due to the important oils and proteins the plants produced which were used to act as supplements for MREs and to boost the effectiveness of Deisel and Gasoline fuel. When terrorists attempted to overtake the Ogasawara Holding Facility, the triffids dispersed across the island, and several neighboring islands, now roaming free. Despite being plants, they display a distinct animal cunning. When they slay a victim, they then wait for it to decompose so they can use their stinger to strip the flesh from it (as well as place their roots over it, preventing other scavengers from getting at it--and absorbing other nutrients from the corpse).

Some of the more armored mutant animals do consume the Triffids, and they have shown up in other places as a deadly bioweapon.

I was reading 'day of the triffids' at night cause @ineffectualdemon recommended it i believe, and i finally reached shadow bringers in ffxiv today and what do I see

Now they look nothing as described in the book (they walk like a TARS) but it's weird to encounter this twice in one day.
