On the subject of familiars: I am very close with my pet cat as well as many cats at the animal shelter where I work. Could cat be a good option for a familiar for me? Also, do you have any resources on how to work with familiars?

Cats make very good familiars! The thing about familiars in general though is that they choose you and you’ll know if they are in fact familiars if they show and intense interest in your witchcraft practice. This includes watching while you perform spells and rituals, directing you to certain spots and powerful objects, and possessing certain powers themselves.
