Courtney Patton “Light Fades”
One of my favorite singers, songwriters and women in general. Like her album title suggests, Courtney is deep (especially lyrically) and confidently, naturally lets every word and note flow out of her. In fact, the second track, “Give Me A Break (Let Me Bend),” states how her “voice was made to sing and shout.”
All this is proven with each song on her most recent record, 2013′s Triggering A Flood, but my favorite lives within “Light Fades.” For me, it pleasantly recalls a sound from the 90s, a la Patty Loveless, Terri Clark, etc. A great melody with strong lyrics. How could you want more?
Courtney is now happily married to another one of my favorite singer/songwriters, Jason Eady. Talk about a power couple! And I think it’s worth mentioning that their voices compliment each other so well, making any and all of their songs (especially their co-writes) a joy to listen to. She’s in the final stages of releasing a second album (date unknown) that promises to "make a younger Willie Nelson proud. Think 'Red Headed Stranger' Willie.” If this song didn’t entice you enough, surely the anticipation of a Courtney Patton traditional country album will. I can’t wait.
