What's your favorite spoon?
Lmao I was so hoping someone would ask!
So for the longest time my roommate and I had no silverware or anything. We had two mugs two bowls and two plates and a cutting board and knife my parents left me with last year. We’re college kids, ok, and poor. We had mason jars we got at repo for 50 cents we used as cups. We forgot to get silverware when there but were too lazy to make the walk again.
So we did what I did last year and bought a pack of plastic spoons and lived off that. Spoons are remarkably the most useful utensil, at least for our diets. You can TOTALLY spear something with a spoon if you REALLY need to but seeing as we survive of cafeteria meals in the actual caf and applesauce and goldfish in the room, we were set.
But one day, god one day, my roommate comes in clutching a spoon. It’s a little wooden thing, wax or clearcoat sealed obviously, and it’s like, three inches long? With the indent of a half teaspoon? It’s probably a baby food spoon now that I think of it.
And I’m like where the fuck did you get a spoon? And she says “I found it on the ground!” All excited. Because my roommate is Queen of Reclamation she claims ANY free stuff (we sprinted down twelve city blocks for Free Shit Once but that's another story if anyone wants to ask.) So much of her stuff she gets for free. Came in with a nice shoulder bag and some various trinkets today just from her walk home from work.
So anyway we marinate the spoon in dishwashing soap for a few hours and rinse it and then it became Our Spoon. Our only spoon. So many months went by of “Is the spoon clean?” “Eh a bit dusty.” “Ok I’ll wash it I want ice cream.”
She grabbed spare silverware at home after Christmas break, but I’m still partial to The Spoon, mostly because wood doesn’t conduct cold and it’s really ergonomic in my hand and because it’s small it has GREAT leverage and the big metal ones bend and don’t fit as nicely in the little Luigi’s italian ice cups I get. It is The Perfect Spoon for my purposes and I love it. I’m gonna try to keep it when she leaves bit u know it’s her spoon really if she wants it she can have it.
