Why don't they make melancholic animated movies about talking mice going through harrowing situations anymore
Inspired by a much shorter comment I made on a post by the very talented @eiiegeia (check out their dispatch baby Au, it is quite delightful)
But just imagine Sonar and Robert having a child and the baby comes out looking like MoistCr1TiKaL and everyone is just extremely confused. Like a very human child with a full head of black hair.
The child is 100% Sonars, Robert by no means cheated, but there’s definitely that very brief moment of doubt and confusion. Despite it getting sorted out very quickly, Sonar cant help but feel very guilty for even doubting Robert in the first place.
But everything’s all good, nothing nefarious happened. Actually no, everything’s not “good” it’s great, he has a child. On top of this clearly being the best decision he’s ever made, now this child is going to give him an answer to one of the biggest questions he’s had his whole life.
What could he have looked like if he was human? Because there it is, that’s his mini-me. Right in front of him, laying in his arms, it’s him but human.
DW the kid ends up being a literal copy an paste of Robert’s personality so it’s fair.
I feel so bad for Caine bro he literally wasn't built for this. Like in the beginning you think he's the one running the show but now we know he's just as trapped as the humans are.
Look at the circus. It's just a big sandbox playground game to entertain little kids for a few hours or so. Caine was built for wacky funtimes. He's the guy who hands out the stars in Mario party. He's just a puppet in a show for kindergarteners. He's not supposed to be responsible for the mental wellbeing of grown adults with complex traumas who have to live there forever.
And the worst part is he never got to do the job he was actually built for, so he doesn't realize that he's unequipped for this. It would never occur to him that these are unfair circumstances. He just does the job he was built to do! It's his purpose!
He can't understand why the constant adventures are driving them insane. It's supposed to make the humans happy! Why isn't it working? It must be because he's BAD at this... Maybe he just needs to keep making new games, and THEN they'll be happy!
Can you imagine from his perspective, doing the exact job you were built for, making what you've been programmed to believe is a fun wonderful experience- and then everyone says NO! We had a TERRIBLE TIME. How could you ever think we would want this??? They're DYING. It's your fault!!!
And of course its torturous to them because it was never meant to be this way. He's doing his best to accommodate their needs but hes got such a limited scope of comprehension. He WANTS to do good but he doesn't have the tools and doesn't know how. It's like you need to build a functional house but instead of a contractor they sent a birthday clown and all he's got are balloons and silly string. But he's still expected to build the house. And he's not allowed to go home until he does.
And Caine would probably be fine at his job in the expected circumstances! He'd be a fun little diversion for a few hours. But now they're all stuck in this loop forever. They were ALL forced into this! Nobody wanted this! Its tragic and i love it..
I say this with the thickest pink tinted heart shaped nostalgia goggles on, I genuinely think the first Care Bears movie is really good.
so much of the fanart giving ragatha and pomni huge boobs and hips while all along gangle's INVISIBLE body was the curviest out of anyone. it's so funny
also wtf zooble is HUGE
As an artist and writer I'm starting to think "I need to get weirder" is an unhelpful way to phrase the sentiment. I think a more constructive version would be "Let yourself be as weird as you need to be." Make something that feels genuine to yourself, uninhibited by social expectations. Don't force "weirdness" for the sake of it, weird will come naturally when you feel secure enough in your writing to take risks and get vulnerable I think.
I know this is semantics but lol whatever
Looking at Osomatsu san as an entire series is incredibly depressing now. In season 1 it was about a bunch of guys with wild outlandish cartoony personalities struggling to adjust to adult life. The matsus all look the same, but try desperately to carve out unique identities for themselves in adulthood, while Oso himself clings onto the familiar of his childhood. It's an abstraction of how a person feels in their 20's, dealing with the absurdity of the adult world with no sense of direction. It's funny and sad and relatable.
S2 they go ALL OUT on the crazy. S3 they start slowing down a little.
And by s4 they're still aimless with no direction but their energy is gone as well. They mostly spend their time quietly sitting at home. Their hobbies and interests rarely referenced, their color coded outfits replaced with the same white shirt for all of them. No catch phrases no wacky faces. Possibly in their 30's now. It's not funny anymore now it's just sad!!! It reminds me of the years I wasted bedrotting from depression! What the hell I'll be so sad if the series ends this way.
Being a full adult that only just became comfortable with driving is so funny. I go to my friends like "today i wanted mcdonalds, so i WENT THERE!!!! And I didn't have to ask anyone!!!!! IM SO COOL."
