6am no gi with Keith on the coldest day of the year (1 degree). Ended up wearing socks and a hat, but we got our work in! Continued on the series of attacks from knee-on-belly:
From knee on belly, with your right knee on opp’s belly, give opponent pressure so they post on your knee with their far hand.
Slide your right hand through the window and grip under their arm with a curled wrist (palm up), pull them towards you, and step your left foot near opp’s head, place your left hand on the mat next to opp’s left side, turning your body so your left knee wedges under opp’s upper left arm, and fall back for the arm bar.
Opponent will defend by gripping their own hand.
Slide your left arm through opp’s arms and grip your right thigh.
With your right hand, switch grip to opp’s left wrist and lock up the kimura grip, pushing down towards opp’s waist.
Weave your right leg under opp’s far arm.
Fall onto your left side towards opp’s feet, which will bring their head up off the mat.
Straighten your right leg so it ends up under opp’s head like a pillow.
Rotate onto your belly, straightening both legs to break opp’s grip.
If you can’t break the grip or just want to go for something else, curl your right leg so your calf is behind opp’s triceps (you can also pull with your right arm if you’ve given up on the kimura and want to finish the triangle).
Lock up the figure four with your right foot inside your left leg for the triangle.
From there you can either submit via triangle, or back to kimura, or arm bar, or wrist lock. Choice is yours baby!
Finished out with positional sparring. Osssss.

Back with Keith and the 6am kids this fine morning. After warm-ups we drilled some pushing and pulling from standing, some leg drag to pass sequences, then got into some triangle work from guard.
With opponent in your closed guard, get into a one arm in/one arm out position (this wasn’t the focus, just the starting point).
Pull opp’s captured arm across your body (their right arm goes to your right pocket) as you lift your hips off the mat.
Pull opp’s head down as you step on their hip with your left foot to change your angle. The closer you can get your knee to the back of their neck, the better.
Lock your right foot under your left leg, squeeze with the thighs as you pull the head down and lift the hips.
If opp postures up and fights the triangle, you can extend the captured arm, throw your left leg in front of their face, and lift the hips for an arm bar.
If opponent gets out and tries to hide the right arm behind your left hip, you can pull their elbow into your body with your right hand and then use your left to throw on a kimura.
We closed it out with playing king-of-the-triangle-set-up-position. I was able to escape against a bunch of white belts and was able to submit them most of the time. I learned that it’s key to control the elbow of the arm you have in your guard - once you lose that it’s gonna be really hard to attack.

Lots of action, hanging pieces, lets get started! First thing to notice is what are my opponents threats. Clearly the black queen want to capture the pawn on f3 with check (Qxf3+) which will require white to block with a rook and pinning to the king.…
