A grapplers experience kickboxing
So I’ve recently returned to kickboxing afer nearly four years off, and I’m re-learning much of what I used to be okay (not good) at.
One of the more difficult things is because i’m a grappler at heart, having done judo since i was 7, my stances feel wrong, I’m right handed but southpaw feel so much more natural because of my judo background. Thankfully the coach i‘m working with now has a better insight into how to make a right handed southpaw work, though it does mean i’m gonna have to be really sharp on my anticipation of attacks and avoiding them, something i wasn’t particularly good at even before!
With some work on that, and translating my judo game to no gi grappling, I should start to grow into a much more rounded fighter!
Did I say some work? I meant lots! Lots of work!
