Triglav. One of the Slavic Gods or a Fusion of Three Gods.

Triglav is the Slavic god of divination and oath- making. Some versions refer to Triglav as a local version and form of the god Veles.

The name “Triglav” actually means “the one with three heads”.Triglav is depicted as a man with three heads who is wearing a veil or golden blindfolds. Triglav was very fond of humans and by wearing the golden blindfold he didn't see evil caused by human beings. Even tho, he liked humans, he never appeared to them, he lookad at them from above. The three heads are symbols of the sky, earth, and the underworld.

In fact, this is one of the most mysterious gods in the Slavic pantheon as the triad in its entity represents different elements according to different versions. 

An early version of this myth includes the three gods Svarog or Heaven, Perun or Earth, and Daibog or Underworld. In a later version, the god Veles or Svetovid replaces Daibog. Therefore, Triglav always represents a fusion of the three gods.

In some mythology variants, Triglav is the son of this god- triad or unity of other lesser Slavic deities.  

In the book of Veles, there is a sentence that proves Triglav’s relation to this triad, with the sentence “We pray and bow to the first Triglav” after which is mentioned Svarog as the father- god and then Perun and Svetovid.

In Slovenia, the highest peak in the country is named after Triglav with 2864m altitude.

Triple God?

Give this a read; what do you think about the role of a Triple God? To me, it makes a lot of sense, for perfect balance one requires equal balance; granted, in many ancient pantheons, the triple goddess/god aspect isn't as thought out as in Wicca; however, if you're going to follow a triple Goddess aspect, why not a corresponding triple God aspect? I'd like to adjust this author's perception of the triple God though; instead of going with the morning, noon and evening sun levels to correspond with the triple aspects, I'd go with the sun when it first burst to life billions of yrs ago as the Young Lord- very new, has a ton of power but doesn't know quite yet how to harness and control it properly; then what we have now as the "father" role- always there for us, sometimes giving off more energy than we require, sometimes less but willing to let us make our own way under his light.  Then for the King or Sage role- the sun when it's quieting down- as the sun sometimes does- the heat is less intense, giving us a bit of down time, time to reflect, to use its energy wisely as well as its light.

31 Day Pagan Challenge - Day 5

5. Foundations: Rites of Passage - How you see the “cycles of life,” and how you view reincarnation, death, the afterlife, and milestones.

To start with milestones, I don't really believe that certain ones still have a place in society these days. For instance the celebrating of a girl becoming a woman being when she gets her first period. Just...no. In fact I know so many girls in my town who have had children in their teens and I would still regard them, in maturity terms, as children themselves. The same thing goes for boys. A young man can sleep around and father loads of kids but it doesn't mean he has progressed from Youth to Father properly. I can even point to myself as an example; I'm in my late twenties yet still having to live at home, wheras when my mother was my age she was pregnant with her third child and had been married for eight years. 

Milestones in regards to age, other birthdays, don't really feel relavent to me personally. It's more about how a person earns that maturity. Most Pagans are aware with of the Triple Goddess concept of Maiden, Mother and Crone. I also acknowledge the Triple Male God; Youth, Father and Sage. I doubt I will have children so does that mean I skip the Mother stage? Not really. The Mother and Father stage for me represent responsibility and the ability to guide and care for others, taking charge of ones own life. The Crone/Sage stages are when one has experienced so much of life and gained wisdom to share with the younger generation. I've honestly met a man in his early thirties, an army vet, who I would call a Sage, as he was as wise as any older person I've known. There's two huge milestones we all have. Birth and Death. For me, reincarnation always made more sense or at least felt like the more preferable option as opposed to living forever in some 'other realm'. This Universe is so vast and full of so much history and potential, it would seem the ultimate unfairness if we only got one shot at it - some of us not even surviving past our own births. However I do like to think there might be some kind of 'crossing' between lives. Somewhere we reflect on our choices and our spirit subconsciously takes the lessons we've learned into our next life, and we have a peaceful reunion and closure with those we loved, and maybe also those we despised. I don't believe in karma. At least, I don't believe every thing that happens to us, good or bad, is the result of some deed we did in the past or, worse, a past life. I don't believe our incarnation is dependant on how we lived in this life. Honestly, I don't claim to believe anything on how our next lives our chosen. If they're mapped out by us or the gods or just pure random. As I've said before, focusing on the afterlife is not a huge part of my faith. I try to focus more on the here and now. Trying to help make the world better, not just for myself as I won't always be here, but for my niece and every other life that follows after me.
