Why do you head cannon that jay is short/nickname of James? (I really like name head cannons and was curious)
To be very honest, James is the more fanonically correct version that I wanted to adhere to in the rewrite, but it is not my first choice! I genuinely like the name James (it is the last name of what will eventually be the main character of my first novel) and I love how James Walker rolls off the tongue.
But my first choice is actually Jacob! I headcanon Jay as growing up in an ambiguously Jewish family (either ethnically Jew or very removed religious Jew) and that Jacob is a reference to that. I also just really like the name Jacob (once again, future name for what will be a main character in a novel I write).
