Travel Hackathon
Over the last three years, I had attended lots of Hackathons and built bunch of apps. Though I had worked on few of them after the events and made them available on Google Play, many of the apps are still frozen in my laptop. I am trying to document most of them in the coming weeks.
THack was a 48 hour travel themed hackathon conducted by Tnooz in November last year. The event happened at Cleartrip's spacious Bangalore office. I had teamed up with Kingsley and Sundar. After a short brain-storming session, we decided to build a mobile app that is a marketplace for discovering curated travel itinerary.
For example, a publisher(a travel enthusiast) could collect and curate a bunch of web pages and blogposts that provide brilliant content related to Hampi. The content could vary from important places to see, offbeat locations, must visit eateries, recommended home-stays/resorts and contact information for emergency services. These information would be turned into a neat mobile-friendly offline readable content. Users would be able to in-app purchase this bundle. Judges seemed to be convinced by the idea of the app but they were not very convinced about the business model as every marketplace related idea runs into a Chicken-Egg issue. Overall it was a memorable experience and I had a great time building it.
