It's exactly an year since @sanjana_anenth and I moved into this beautiful city! We have been enjoying the perks of living in a dreamy vacation place with tons of activities and experiences. Inspite of keeping ourselves busy, I guess there is a majority left 😊 #timeflies #cityversary #sanfranciso (at Presidio)
Monday hike! #labordayweekend (at Lands End)
Today was apparently SF's warmest day in the past 143 years! Also, today will be etched in the history of the city that I was at the waterfront in my shorts 😀 p.s: At 37 degrees, it's nothing compared to Chennai though! (at Pier 14)
Last week I went on a solo trip to witness the Solar Eclipse in it's Path of Totality. It's the 70 mile path across the US where the moon completely covers the sun resulting in a breathtaking view for about two minutes and those minutes are safe to watch without any glasses. I could see the horizon turning pinkish, the stars appearing right near the sun and the wind turning cold. Earth, for a moment looked like an alien planet. And it all happened at 10:30 AM! This out of the world experience took me just overall 1770 kilometers and 25 hours+ on the road! And, I learnt to drive just 3 months back 😀 #adventuretime #solareclipse (at Albany, Oregon)
The remotely operated train at the Getty center was a treat to watch. This was shot at a spot which usually would have been a driver's view. My most elaborate #hyperlapse till now. #losangeles #train (at Getty Museum)
See you, San Francisco!
It's two months since I came here on my official trip and it has been a memorable trip. A mashup of adrenaline pumping sprints at work, fancy vacation to Vegas and LA, peaceful and beautiful hikes, crazy underground party and DJ nights, a mega hackathon, a crash course on astronomy, good amount of solo travel that helped in introspection, lots of interesting conversations with Lyft drivers and a ton more of such experiences.
My last visit was more as a tourist but this time, I felt a bit like an insider and got to know the diversity in depth. Thanks for treating me well and see you soon!
PS: Also, thanks for making my Instagram photos beautiful :)
Self Parking Cars!
Today saw the i3 self park. If self parking cars can be this cool, can't wait for self driving cars! #hackthedrive

Just welcomed 2015 alongside 30K people in Downtown, LA. An 18 storey building was converted into a digital canvas for awesome VFX and fireworks. Happy New Year! (at Grand Park)
Torrijas (Spanish French toast), huckleberries & hazelnut ice cream. One of the best desserts I ever had. (at The Commissary)
Amateur Astronomer
A couple of days back in a dinner conversation about the lack of interesting tech events happening in San Francisco, Jonathan, suggested that I should explore some non-tech events too. This made be stumble upon a stargazing event by San Francisco Amateur Astronomers.
Apparently, they conduct monthly events where in they teach newbies on basic astronomy concepts and share their telescopes with them. The instructor had an awesome laser torch that had an amazing range (it was powerful enough to cause disturbance to the low flying planes!).
We were first pointed to north star and the importance it has in navigation. This star is exactly on top the earth's north pole. So, only with it its help we can compute the direction. Then many visible constellations were pointed out. During this time, we saw a star that was moving fast, apparently it is the ISS (International Space Station) moving at 18,000km/hr. We also saw a polar orbit satellite around the same time. It was such a wonderful experience to see a satellite with a naked eye.
Then we saw our moon through a telescope. It was surreal to see the craters on the moon with high definition. We also got a faint glimpse of the Andromeda galaxy! Overall it was a night well spent learning a bit about something I don't usually pay attention to.
Chai latte. Accidentally discovered and am loving it! (at Little Griddle SF)
Yesterday, I cycled across the Golden Gate Bridge. The bridge seemed pretty strong even after repeated bombing by US fighter jets to protect the city from Godzillas and Apes :) I couldn't get to the Varanam Aayiram proposal scene spot as it was a very steep climb. Overall I biked 18 miles till Tiburon, an European style suburb with brilliant views and a ferry took back to SF. This being my first ever long and lonely ride, it was an awesome experience. (at Golden Gate Bridge)
Sweeping Panaroma
I met Srivatsan at a hackathon yesterday. I hadn't known him before but after knowing my name, he said that my panorama app was an awesome idea. It took few seconds for me to realize that he was referring to the Sweeping Panorama hack I had built long back. He had even suggested that I should consider starting a Kickstarter campaign for building a panel that would make any Android phone's surface flat.
I was really to happy to see that an app I had build long back is being remembered by someone whom I am meeting for the first-time :)
Travel Hackathon
Over the last three years, I had attended lots of Hackathons and built bunch of apps. Though I had worked on few of them after the events and made them available on Google Play, many of the apps are still frozen in my laptop. I am trying to document most of them in the coming weeks.
THack was a 48 hour travel themed hackathon conducted by Tnooz in November last year. The event happened at Cleartrip's spacious Bangalore office. I had teamed up with Kingsley and Sundar. After a short brain-storming session, we decided to build a mobile app that is a marketplace for discovering curated travel itinerary.
For example, a publisher(a travel enthusiast) could collect and curate a bunch of web pages and blogposts that provide brilliant content related to Hampi. The content could vary from important places to see, offbeat locations, must visit eateries, recommended home-stays/resorts and contact information for emergency services. These information would be turned into a neat mobile-friendly offline readable content. Users would be able to in-app purchase this bundle. Judges seemed to be convinced by the idea of the app but they were not very convinced about the business model as every marketplace related idea runs into a Chicken-Egg issue. Overall it was a memorable experience and I had a great time building it.
How we built 3 apps in 3 days
My talk at Nitrodroid on Rapid App Development. I discuss the methodologies I usually follow in cracking hackathons and the advantages of using MBAAS (Mobile Backend As A Service) to achieve rapid development speed.
