Song Review: “When I Fall (Outta Love)” by TriptyQ

TriptyQ is unlike anything you’ve probably ever heard before. Boldly merging classical music and hip-hop, this three-person ensemble neatly weaves the robust talents of its group members to yield impressive results.

On the intriguing “When I Fall (Outta Love)” off TriptyQ’s first EP, Pentatonix beatboxing extraordinaire Kevin “K.O.” Olusola plays his masterful cello, beatboxes, and raps (a true renaissance artist), while fellow virtuoso musician Tara Kamangar plays piano and violin, and Antoniette Costa takes lead vocal duties.

“When I Fall” features deft piano-work from Kamangar as well as Olusola showing off his bevy of skills, even inserting some Mandarin Chinese into his rap verse. Additionally, Costa’s vocals perfectly capture the subdued seriousness of the song.

"When I Fall" illustrates the process of trying to completely move on or away from a repressive romantic partner. “It’s not right that I should feel the way I feel. It’s not right that I should deal with what I deal” Costa sings affirmatively.

The creative brilliance and ingenuity of this track, along with the four accompanying tracks on TriptyQ’s debut EP, The TriptyQ Sessions, has me wildly excited for the potential of this trio and what the future could hold for them.

I don't really like Triptyq.. I can appreciate their talent, but the singing throws me off, and the overall sound just isn't for me. HOWEVER; I could never tell anyone this or I would get hate for not appreciating Kevin, which is completely untrue..
