Red-veined Dropwing
Trithemis arteriosa (Odonata - Libellulidae), commonly known as Red-veined Dropwing, is one of the most widespread and common dragonflies in Africa, southern Europe and the Arabian Peninsula.
The male has a slender red abdomen (as shown in the photo). The female and immature have a yellowish-russet abdomen with a pale streak between the wings.
This species is named after the bright red veins running across its wings.
As with other dropwing species, the wings are held downwards and forwards when at rest.
