Trolley Square, 602 E 500 S, Salt Lake City, UT 84102
Trolley Square was the home of the Utah Light and Rail company’s trolley car barns. The buildings were converted into a marketplace in 1972. The conversion kept elements of the original buildings, including the facades. You can imagine trolley cars parked inside the two-story marketplace. A water tower built in 1908 adds a visible, distinctive touch. You can sign up for a tour of the water tower.
They also added plaques the describe prominent Utahns and there’s a Trolley History museum inside (it was closed during my visit). The shopping center was nice but not many people were there. Even the Whole Foods seemed empty. It is close to the TRAX station called Trolley Square.
There’s a mix of fitness, beauty, an art gallery, retailers (clothing, gifts, stationery, , home furnishings, and restaurants. Many are small shops not found elsewhere. Parking is free.
