Todd Snider, the rambling troubadour who helped shape the Americana music movement, has died at 59.
Todd Snider tickled my fancy. A wise and funny and down-to-earth troubador humorist. Sad to learn of his too-early demise.

Gautier de Coincy, "S'amour dont sui espris"
Gautier de Coincy, “S’amour dont sui espris”
This is day two of the A-toZ Challenge in which I attempt to blog every day (excepting Sundays) during the month of April. Today’s letter is C and I will write about a medieval composer named Gautier de Coincy.
From Wikipedia: “Gautier de Coincy (1177–1236) was a French abbot, poet and musical arranger, chiefly known for his devotion to the Virgin Mary.”

What a freaking romantic concept!
The Music Train
I awoke from a midnight dream
And the world is quiet here
Things are not what they seem
And a train is coming, I fear
A steady chug along
A conductor singing songs
Sir, can I get on?
Sir, I know that song!
Twice the whistle blows
There's no joy in me alone
So I get on
So I hold on
My fellow troubadors
Tell tales of closing doors
No one appreciates their passion
No one appreciates their song
So on this journey we embark
Humming, playing, singing larks
Together songs will lead us on
Together songs will bring us home
take me to the pilot - elton john (bbc in concert 1970)
i have had this song in my head on and off since tuesday night's screening of troubadors (which seems like it really might have changed our lives). what a killer song! and do you remember when this guy sang it? holy crap! my heart was exploding for joy! i wanted to be up there belting it out and doing squats with him. this round has been a little tough to watch since, in an attempt to live with no "what if's" in my life, i drug my friend sara along with me to san francisco to audition, and i was turned down flat. no, i did not meet steven tyler. i was embarrassed. i was sad. i was relieved. (if they made that blind kid dance, there's no way in hell they'd let me get out of it...) but i did it, and that's something.
here's to continuing to live with no regrets, and to putting embarrassing stories on the internet.
