The Invisible Boy

I bought this book to show my Sunday school class. But, I cannot. It depicts children who wear glasses, as outcasts. My son wears glasses, and I cannot enter into his head any earlier than he might get a dose of reality that kids who wear glasses might be different. As of now he is incredibly confident. This book would have been infinitely better, if simply the glasses had been left off of the boy.

"Trouble Talk" by Trudy Ludwig, Illustrated by Mikela Prevost Age Group: 7 and up Grade Level: 2nd and up Genre: Fiction Theme(s): Bullying, Gossip, Rumors Summary: Big Mouth Bailey is causing all sorts of trouble at her new school. She is constantly in everyone's business and takes it upon herself to tell everyone everything. Our narrator Maya, is directly affected by Bailey's nonsence and figures out a way to solve this problem. Personal Response: I think this is a REALLY great book! It's very real and easy to relate to. I know from experience that gossip is no fun and it's good to teach kids that early and give them ways to resolve social issues like rumors and gossip. I loved the positive ending of "When you have an open heart, anything's possible!"
