holy shit I just learned what "true tone" does and I'm kinda pissed off but also this explains so much
true tone is a function apple devices have on by default that basically adjusts the colors slightly in order to make them less harsh, which is good in most cases, but it means that screenshots will look different depending on the ambient light when you take them
for years I've been confused that screenshots of my art have had slightly off colors, which is frustrating because I often screenshot instead of saving the file properly (force of habit) and I use those screenshots as reference to color pick from
I thought it was just some unavoidable thing, but it was so minor that I didn't really care (usually just the last 2 digits of the hex code were off). but then I saw a screenshot and a saved png of the same drawing next to each other and they were drastically different
I mean look at this! the hex codes aren't even close!
like I'm glad I found out so I can change it but goddamn
anyway, if you screenshot your art, make sure true tone is off
