Jimmy Carter (1924–2024)
If any politician could be said to have died “in the odour of sanctity” it would be Jimmy Carter. He was, literally, too good for the high office he once held. I admired him deeply.

Truly virtuous are not conscious of their virtue. Those of inferior virtue, however, are ever concisely concerned with their virtue and therefore they are without true virtue. True virtue is spontaneous and lays no claim to virtue.
